City Hall
* A historical building
* A lot of historical events take place here
* Surrender of the Japanese ceremony was held here in 1945
* Following classical style
* Last of the few classical building built in Singapore
* back, plain, simple
* Front – imposing , nice
* Built between 1926-1929
* Design by Rudolfo Nolli
* Got a job in Singapore to make sculptures in year 1921
* All the sculptures are made from faux stones [ artificial stones ]
* Method – pre-casting
* Declaration of self-government by Mr. Lee Kuan Yew was held here in 1959
* It was renamed City Hall when Singapore was declared a City in 1951 by Britain's King George VI

Supreme Court
* The supreme court occupies the site of the former hotel de L'Europe.
The hotel opened in two bungalows in 1857. Rebuilt in the Edwardian Baroque Style in 1907 , it was a keen rival to Raffles Hotel.
* It was designed by Frank Dorrington Ward , chief architect of the public works department and was officially opened by governor Sir Shenton Thomas on 3 aug 1939
* Built in 1939
* Built according to the classical style from Roman
* Falls under the classical architectural styles: ionic, Corinthian, Doric
* Justicia [ Roman Goddess of justice ]
* She is blindfolded so as to ensure that she is fair to everyone and
unbiased

* Frieze - a horizontal band, usually close to the top of a wall or forming the middle portion of an entablature, usually decorated with sculpture, etc.

* Pediment – in classical architecture, it is a triangular part of a wall, usually between sloping roofs, supported by columns, leading to the entrance of a building.

* Tympanum – the triangular wall surface of the pediment

* Ionic – most easily distinguished by the volutes [spirals or scrolls], resembling a ram’s horns, at the top of the column is also called a capital.

* Corinthian – most easily recognized by ornate acanthus leaf decorations on its capitals.

* Doric – it is characteristically plain and undecorated .

* there is a newly built supreme court now...

Sir Stamford Raffles statue [Victoria Memorial Hall]

· Made from : Pertinal / Bronze
· Man from the past wear short pants
· Man who wear long pants are laborers [ at a lower rank ]
· The way Sir Stamford Raffles’s eyes look means that Singapore has a future … [ looking far … ]
· Motto under the statue is the same as the motto as Raffles Institution
· Gryphon [ 2 headed]
· Motto : Auspicium Melioris Aevi [ hoping for a better age]
· The statue is erected on the esplanade in the year 1997. It was moved to its present site in the year 1919.
· Marky Kotugawa [ the new museum curator ] hidden the statue inside the museum during the war so the statue is still the original one

Dalhousie Obelisk

* Built to commemorate the visit of the Governor General , Lord Dalhousie , and his wife in 1850 , Singapore by then was a thriving past under the British East India Company.
* It is an abstract style
* Made of concrete
* first public monument in Singapore
* tall, 4 sided , tapering monument with a pyramid on top.
* oldest sculpture , 156 yrs old
